Robert Eugene Howard, Jr

Robert Eugene Howard, Jr., son of the late Robert Eugene Howard and Mary Belle Thorne Howard was born on July 25th, 1935 in Benson, North Carolina. He transitioned to his eternal home on Saturday, May 11, 2019. His years of education were attained in the Cumberland County School System and was a graduate of E. E. Smith Senior High School. Bobby, as he was affectionately called, also attended A&T College in Greensboro, North Carolina where he received a B. S. Degree in Physical Education. He served in the United States Army for three years. Bobby was employed with New York Parks and Recreation as a Recreational Supervisor. He retired from this position on December 31, 1987. While employed with Parks and Recreation, Bobby received numerous accolades and awards for: outstanding performance; organizing and conducting excellent programs; services; leadership skills, and; counseling. He also received the Career Services Award for the City of New York. One of his greatest joys was working with and coaching the youth. Bobby was a role model for many youths during his lifetime. As a mentor for youth, he truly made a difference in their educational achievements and accomplishments. He also loved playing chess. Surviving to forever cherish his life and legacy are: his daughter, Keisha Melvin of New Jersey; two sisters, Glenda Fox (Kenny) and Sandra Jones Morrisey (Bobby); two brothers, Charles Howard (Inga) Texas, and; Joseph Howard (Cindy) of Mississippi; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and many, many friends. His parents, Robert and Mary Belle Howard; two aunts, Lillian and Marion; two uncles, Lynwood and Joseph, and; one niece, Glynis Jenine preceded him in death. There is peace in the valley for Robert Eugene Howard, Jr. Good night, Sir. Take your rest. As long as we live, you will live on in our heart.
