George Jones

March 15, 1933 — November 17, 2018

Mr. George Jones, affectionately known as "Jake" was born to the late Watson and Beatrice Dowdy Jones on March 15,1933.

He was educated in the Cumberland County School System. After graduating from high school George was inducted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War.  He retired from the Town of Spring Lake in 1998.  He joined Bethel AME Zion Church at an early age and remained a faithful member until his illness caused him to remain home.  George was a member of the Male Chorus, Treasurer of the Sunday School Department, member of the Male Sunday School class and a member of the Trustee Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leander Jones and his only son Lorenzo Jones.

He leaves to cherish his memory, His companion and caregiver, Ms. Patronella Goodwin of the home, one daughter, Deborah Jones Robinson of Dorchester, MA. A special "daughter" Ms. Shameka Johnson, three sisters, Ruth Murchison, Dorchester, MA, Mildred Jones McFadden, Boston, MA, and Pamela Preston of Roxbury MA, Two brothers, Walter Jones of Yonkers, New York and William E Jones of Alabama. Five grandchildren and Fourteen great grandchildren.  Two Aunts, Ms Rose Bell, of Boston MA, and Maggie Clemmons, Sanford, NC. Numerous step children of Massachusetts, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
