Archie Edward Williams Jr.

Archie Edward Williams, Jr., was born to the late Archie and Eula Mae Wood Williams on April 6, 1938, in Fayetteville, NC. At an early age, Archie gave his life to Christ, becoming a member of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a longtime member of Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA.

Archie attended Newbold Training School and graduated from E.E. Smith High School in 1955. Upon graduation, he attended Hampton University. He served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1963. He resumed his studies in New York, where he received the following degrees: a B.E.E.E in Electrical Engineering, an M.S. in Computer Science, an M.B.A. in Finance and Operations Research, and a J.D. from Fordham University Law School.

Archie's illustrious career began as a computer-systems design engineer at Sperry Rand Corp. He moved on to Eastern Airlines as a software engineer and project manager in the Finance Department. He later became a trial lawyer and Assistant—DA in the West Chester (NY) District Attorney's Office. Archie retired from the U. S. Patent Office in 1996. He was a Special Program Examiner. He was a co-partner in Wood IP Law. In 2018, he was selected by the Majority Chief Council for the US Senate Committee on Judiciary to participate in a working group of experts whose task was to assist Senators Thom Tillis and Chris Cross in revising Title 35 Section 101 of the US Code on patent eligibility.

Archie loved his family and was the family historian. He liked to travel and was an advocate of education, supporting many educational institutions. Prior to his failing health, Archie belonged to several professional groups, including the NC Association of Black Lawyers, the National Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.

Archie is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jenothra, and his son Archie Edward Williams III. His son, Archie Edward Williams III's cremains, will be laid to rest beside his father and grandparents.

Archie leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Carolyn Council Williams; a bonus daughter, Sharon (Tommie) Hankerson; bonus son, Darryl (Tamara) Smith of Ft. Lauderdale FL; five bonus grandchildren: Wesley Smith of Memphis, TN, Tyler Hankerson, Darylin Smith, Thomas Smith and Todd Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two sister-in-laws Melissa Peterson and Clarie White; one brother-in-law Charles Council (Charlotte); close cousins; Rebecca Christine Williams (Herman); Mary Dockery, Rena Vonti Washington (Ricardo); Robert McAdoo (Patriza), Pamela Cameron (Jasper), Theodore Wood (Shirley); Terri Cummings (Tony), Valerie Harris (Earl), Beverly Cornish, Thomas Wood, Stephanie Smith, Randall Smith and host of other relatives and friends.
